The Lewis and Clark Expedition.
A brief summery of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century two out of three Americans lived within fifty miles of the Atlantic ocean, and the county ended at the banks of the Mississippi river. Jefferson first said ,"whoever our present interests may restrain us within our own limits, it is impossible not to look forward to distant times, when our multiplication will expand itself beyond its limits and cover the whole Continent." He was looking for ways of expanding the borders of the united states. by the time he negotiated the purchase of the Louisiana territory with France Jefferson was ready to send contingent out to explore this land and find the north west passage, although Jefferson as secretary of state he tried to send explorations out and find the north west passage, his dream was finally realized when the Lewis and Clark Expedition came together. It started in July 3 1803 they went in a boat with a small band of men they took a lot of notes on landscape and wildlife but they also went where no white man had ever gone, the pacific ocean. They felt hunger, thirst, bitter cold, and yet to still reach the pacific. They got back in the us in September 1805 with a treasure trove for Jefferson.
